George Morikawa wrote and created the manga series Hajime no Ippo, which is about Japanese boxing. Since October 1989, Kodansha has published it in Weekly Shonen Magazine, and it has been collected into 133 tankbon editions since about December 2021. It tells the narrative of Makunouchi Ippo, a high school student who starts a boxing career and goes on to win numerous titles and beat a number of competitors.

Madhouse produced a 76-episode anime adaptation, which was broadcast on Nippon TV from October 2000 until March 2002. In 2003, an official video animation (OVA) and a television film were aired. Hajime No Ippo Series Story so far

Ippo Makunouchi was a quiet high school student who couldn’t make friends since he was usually helping his mother manage their family fishing charter business. Because he was quiet, a gang of bullies led by Umezawa became accustomed to picking on him. When these bullies gave him a particularly bad beating one day, a passing middleweight professional boxer intervened and took the injured Ippo to the Kamogawa Gym, which is owned by retired boxer Genji Kamogawa, for treatment. When Ippo awake to the noises of boxers training, Mamoru Takamura, the boxer who had helped him, tried to cheer him up by allowing him to express his anger on a sandbag. They got their first taste of Ippo’s boxing prowess at that point.

Following that encounter, Ippo gave the subject a lot of thinking and realized that he wanted to pursue a professional boxing career. He is verbally admonished when he communicates this message to Mamoru Takamura: Takamura believed Ippo was taking professional boxing too lightly. Takamura, on the other hand, felt he couldn’t refuse Ippo outright, especially given his feat of hitting the sandbag harder than anyone else in the gym (except for Takamura). As a result, and a week of practicing, he challenges Ippo to grab 10 falling leaves out of a tree at the same time, fully expecting Ippo to lose. Takamura runs off as he resumes his track maintenance.

Character growth is prioritized throughout the story—even during the matches; something new about both combatants is learned. Ippo has a propensity of bumping into his competitor’s prior games, which allows him to understand more about them and even relate with them. Ippo is a timid and modest individual who never believes he is powerful enough. Instead, seeing his opponent’s strength and acknowledging that he can rise up to it gives him confidence.

The big attraction in the initial part of the series is Ippo and his healthy rivalry with Miyata. Ippo’s journey to the Japanese Featherweight Championship, and finally the world championship, changed later. They give the audience glimpses into the backstories, motivation, relations with others, and current boxing struggles of the other characters along the way. The series is rounded out by a colorful ensemble of supporting characters and opponents, as well as side stories about their respective careers in boxing.
