The plot is about a tragically funny situation faced by the lead character called Viktor Navorski. He is from another place called Krakozia as he has arrived in the renowned John F. Kennedy International airport in New York, United States. The tragedy is that the place he is from has gotten caught up in a war so bad that the official documents of their natives are not accepted at the JFK airport. Hence, Viktor’s passports and via are invalid in the American airport. He is debarred from stepping into America or out of it.

The comedy peeks in as Tom Hanks brilliantly portrays the gullible and straightforward nature of Viktor who accepted the situation without panicking. He was offered to live in the International Arrivals Lounge. Normally humans would feel insulted if they were held back in such a situation without having done any offense or crime but Viktor patiently cooperated with the officials and started living his life at the lounge. The romantic sparks lit up as the chemistry between Victor and the female flight attendant he met there evolved. She was named Catherine Zeta-Jones who was played by Amelia Warren. Therefore, we can say that it is a partially true story.

The movie has not imitated the exact details but added entertaining elements by taking inspiration from Mehran Karimi Nasseri’s life. Speilberg had brought the rights to the life story of Nasseri as has been reported by The New York Times. Nasseri was also known as Sir Alfred. His narrative also followed the path of having to stay at The Terminal One of Charles de Gaulle airport. This is because he is an Iranian refugee whose official documents were stolen which led to staying there from 1988 to 2006 that is when he was hospitalized as a result of improper medication.
