Rilakkuma is a soft toy bear who came to live with a young woman named Kaoru one day. Its days are spent lounging around the apartment. Although it has a zipper on the back, what is inside remains a mystery. Rilakkuma’s favorite foods include pancakes, rice omelets, custard pudding, and “dango” rice dumplings. Its companions include Kaoru’s pet bird Kiiroitori and a small white bear cub named Korilakkuma, who appeared out of nowhere.
