Created by Amanda Peet & Annie Julia Wyman, The Chair is an American comedy-drama television series that was released on August 20, 2021, on Netflix. The story of this series has been set at the fictional Pembroke University. The series has so far only one season which consisted of 6 episodes, with an average running time of thirty minutes.
After the release of season 1, everything went silent and there was no news that there will be a season two or not. No concrete information has been found yet about the second season.
So to all those who are curious to know about season two of The Chair, we have all the required updates. Let’s go through them!
The Chair Season 2 Release Date
Speaking of the release of season two, as of October 2022, after more than a year of the release of season one, there are no updates about the release of season two.
It is generally the reaction of the audience to the series based on which the fate of a series is decided. According to the information we received, the show was not able to maintain its position in Netflix’s top 10. The show was displayed in Netflix’s top 10 for only about 10 days.
Irrespective of the mediocre performance the show gave on Netflix, it was able to earn an impressive rating of 85% from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Netflix has not announced anything about season two of the series so far, therefore it is expected that season two of this series is unlikely to come.
The lead actress of the show Sandra Oh said in an interview that she has not been contacted yet for another season so she thinks that maybe it’s not happening. Expressing what she thinks about the series, she said that it would have been really good had there been more seasons of this series because she believes that there was a lot that was yet to be explored. She was happy with the plot and the setting and was happy with the experience. She thinks that she was fortunate enough to be a part of the show and is glad that it happened. She is however slightly disappointed that the makers are not planning to have another season.
We know that the fans must be highly disappointed because, for them, there was a slight ray of hope that there might be more seasons coming because the series was not listed as a limited series. However, there is now no possibility that there will be another season.

The Chair Season 2 Story
The series revolves around Professor Ji-Yoon Kim, the newly appointed chair of the English Department at Pembroke University. What makes her so special? Well, she is the first-ever woman to be appointed for this post. The series showcases her attempts to ensure the tenure of a colleague who is a young black, parent her adopted daughter in the best way, and talk about her relationship with her crush, colleague, and friend, Bill Dobson.
Anyway, we only have season 1 now which we can binge-watch. Let’s have a quick recap of what exactly happened and how the story ended in the first season. We will also see what the viewers were expecting from the second season, which now, unfortunately, is no longer in the making.

When season one ended, Ji-Yoon was overthrown by her colleagues and ultimately lost her position as the Chair of the Pembroke English department. Elliott had stepped forward to take the position but Joan was the one who got the position.
Joan was now happy with the position because she could ultimately have a dignified job, the best thing about which was that she gets to work from a dignified office rather than working from the basement of the campus gym.

With a lesser burden of responsibilities on her shoulder, Ji-Yoon now has enough time left at her disposal to play with her adopted daughter Ju Ju. She can give more time to her upbringing. The mother-daughter duo has a very bumpy relationship in season one but irrespective of everything, it was beautiful. If the second season had come, it would have been a delight to see how their relationship would have moved forward and what all events might have happened when Ju Ju would have tried to explore her identity and fit herself into this world.
While all this happens, Bill turns down the offer of college settlement and is moving heaven and Earth to have his job back. While doing this, he is going to babysit for Ji-Yoon.
Ji-Yoon and Bill were on very good terms when the show’s first season ended, but both of them are yet to come out clear about their romantic relationship completely. Bill is still in the state of bereavement, trying to come to terms with his wife’s untimely demise but the feelings he has for Ji-Yoon are no less than romantic. He needs to ponder about his feelings and needs time to sort things out which are going inside his head. If season two would have come, we would have seen both of them taking their relationship forward.
The Chair Season 2 Cast
In the series, we have Sandra Oh playing the role of Ji-Yoon Kim. She is the newly appointed English department chair at Pembroke University. She has an adopted daughter named Ju-Hee “Ju Ju” Kim whose role is played by Everly Carganilla.

Jay Duplass is playing the role of Bill Dobson. He is Kim’s friend and colleague whose life becomes a complete mess after his wife died and his daughter left for college. Nana Mensah is playing the character of Yaz McKay, who is a young faculty member of the English department. He is up for tenure.
David Morse is in the role of Paul Larson. He is a dean at Pembroke University who oversees the English department. Bob Balaban is playing the character of Elliot Rentz, a senior faculty member of the English department. Holland Taylor is present in the series as Joan Hambling. He is a senior faculty member of the English department.
Marcia Debonis is playing the role of Laurie, the English department chair’s assistant. Ji Lee is playing the character of Habi, who is Ji-Yoon’s father. Ella Rubin is playing the character of Dafna Eisenstadt who is an English student. Jordan Tyson is present in the series as Capri.
Ron Crawford is in the character of Professor McHale, a senior faculty member of the English department. Mallory Low is playing the role of Lila, Dobson’s teaching assistant. Simone Joy Jones is playing the role of Joy. Cliff Chamberlain is present in the series as Ronny. Bob Stephenson is playing the role of IT Support technician.

Unfortunately, no trailers are available, nor they will be available because the season is unclear. So since there is no announcement regarding season two, all we can do is watch the trailer of season one, or better, we can binge-watch and enjoy season one all over again!
Where to Watch The Chair Season 2 Online?
Talking about the platforms where season two would have been available had it been in the making since season one was available on Netflix, season two, if it will be released, would also have been available for streaming on Netflix.
So while we can do nothing to deal with our disappointment of there not being season two of The Chair, let’s not forget that Netflix will not let us fall short of the content to watch because a lot is coming up on this streaming platform and of course, there is a plethora of binge-worthy content available on Netflix!
