Is Gyeongseong Creature Scary?

Gyeongseong Creature is scary, but the scare may be more due to the gory scenes and not the supernatural element. However, viewers have agreed the series loses its potency because of the over-display of gory scenes. This show has torture, killings, and human abuse, so if you are sensitive to that, maybe skip it. But it is not as scary as a horror film.

Many people do not like unnecessary gore, but this show has fewer graphic scenes than you might expect. A lot is going on, and the human stories are more interesting than the scary parts. Still, if you want to be entertained, this show has a lot to offer. The gore can be intense and constant, which ironically makes it lose its impact.

But in the middle of all the violence, there are well-told stories about families, love, and patriotism. That is what makes this show more than just another horror series. The intensity never lets up, and it feels really scary. But, Gyeongseong Creature actually has a pretty interesting story hidden in all the darkness, even though many were not sure at first.

Gyeongseong Creature Plot

In 1945, the Japanese army was in a rush to hide the proof of deadly experiments they did on people in northeast China. Snow covers the land, called Manchuria by the Japanese. They pile up bodies to burn them, and they shoot prisoners. Men in uniforms get ready to burn down the whole place.

In this scary scene, like the real crimes of Unit 731, General Kato is worried about his project: making monsters from human experiments to use as weapons in the war. He gathers what he needs to keep working and goes to another city in Japan’s empire: Gyeongseong, which we now call Seoul.

Jang Tae-sang, a successful pawnshop owner, faces trouble when a Korean courtesan disappears. The Japanese general threatens to take away Tae-sang’s home, and business, and send him to the army if he does not find her. Yoon Chae-ok, an expert in finding missing people, joins the search. Their paths cross at a military hospital where the general conducts cruel experiments on Koreans.
